Looking for anything similar to this “Jersey Cheese” made by Colin Wood / Goldstreet Dairy in Australia. Looks like a halloumi / mozzarella hybrid.

I’ve got his cheese making book and may just end up trying the recipe out but wondering if I can just find something like this in the states.

  1. I wondered why folks called it bread cheese some times. My store sells it as “grilling cheese”

You can find halloumi at Lidl stores in the US and occasionally Trader Joes and Aldi too. Harris Teeter, Publix, and Whole Foods also have it but it’s always hella expensive at those places.

I can also find kefalotyri and other Greek grilling cheeses at Lidl too.

  3. Funny enough, looks exactly like “Chicago Cheese”. It’s an Arab fresh white cheese. I always find it at my world markets and Arab markets.

  4. I’ve seen giant Mozzarella sticks at the bar by my house. But they don’t look as good as that.

The Brazilian steakhouses around us have grilled cheese with honey that kinda looks like that. This looks so much better though…

OP can you please share a link to your book? I need to make this like yesterday 🙏🤤

  7. Queso para Freir is similar and is something you can find in places that cater to Latinos in the cold cheese section. I’ve seen them in Walmarts next to Queso Fresco.

You just toss the QpF on a griddle until it starts browning. Usually easier to cut into 2cm wide slabs before cooking.

  8. Holy shit, first time I’ve seen an Australian exclusive here; but I can’t find anywhere that ships this to my state!

Any other Queenslanders here who know where to get this?

Panelas probably the cheapest easiest to find grilling cheese, yanni is also a good brand! A lot more flaky and firmer than this cheese looks though.

  10. Hey /u/f_o_o_k_s_s

Thanks for making this post. Your dedication to finding this cheese inspired me to find it. Fortunately for me, I live 20 minutes away from where they make it, so my wife and I were able to have some for lunch. Can confirm it’s pretty good, bought one to take home as well.

Good luck on your quest, and thank you again for inspiring us 💙
