I’ve heard good things. Can’t wait to get home and try some. Who here’s had it and how’d you like it?

  1. Is real good. My in-laws live near WSU and sometimes buy it for us at the university store when they come to visit.

  2. I have one open and two backups in my fridge right now. Cougar Gold is absolutely incredible, rivals some of the best true cheddars in the world IMHO.

  3. Oh man oh man oh man, I bought our first can of Cougar Cold this Christmas and it was SO GOOD. I’m super-jealous right now…

Has anyone tried the Crimson Fire cheese from WSU? I am torn between ordering that just because I love spicy cheese or Cougar Gold, I have never tried either but have heard great things.

  5. Mind if I ask how you enjoy it? Trying to get more in to cheese, outside of grilled cheese, nachos, stuff like that!

  6. Can someone explain the “Refrigerate upon arrival” instructions on their website. I thought canned goods were shelf stable?

  7. It’s delicious isn’t it? My step grandpa gifts these for Christmas each year. My wife and I opened one before last Christmas to share with family knowing we’d get another, currently have two unopened cans in the fridge right now.

  8. I once bought a whole pile of Cougar Golds around Xmas time and handed them out to co-workers. I offered one to a crusty Alsatian guy who turned up his nose and went on a sanctimonious tirade about cheese needing to breathe, how could you put it in a can, what ridiculousness etc… point being I knew I never liked that guy! Everyone else absolutely loved it and I can’t wait to find an excuse to order a bunch more!

Just got some for Xmas, I loved the basil Monterey cheese they made! So smooth and mild

  10. Thank you for the post, I’ve never had it, but I just ordered two cans. 😂 One for eating one for aging (at least) seems to be the way!

  11. Awesome cheese. We opened a can for Christmas that aged in our fridge for almost three years. The can had puffed out but I looked on the website and it’s totally fine although I guess it can open on its own potentially. It was still amazing and definitely had more depth and flavor. I oddly thought it was a bit sweet tasting. Definitely worth doing if you have space in a fridge.

My parents have one of these from the early 90s just chilling in their fridge. Hope it’s still good, they’re truly saving it for a special occasion!

  13. I love it but it’s also a childhood thing for me. When I was living with people during the college years everyone was pretty excited when I got a can.

  14. I have a can of this sitting in my fridge right now. Just waiting for a special occasion to open it!

  15. THAT STUFF IS SO FUCKIN GOOD.

But seriously, they make it at the Washington State University creamery and I buy it whenever I see it. It might be my favorite cheddar and I grew up in the Midwest.

  16. THIS IS MY FAVORITE CHEESE IN THE WHOLE WORLD! Savor it, my friend (well, as best you can!) I always get a can for Christmas and it’s always gone by New Year’s Day. Irresistible!

  17. This stuff is the best. I ordered 5 different types over the holidays. Still have a little chunk of the original in my fridge right now.
