Depending on the type of dashi will bring up or down the calories but not by much and this will basically make your crispy tofu into agedashi tofu. Btw, this sauce is about 100cal for all of it or 5cal per tbsp. Give or take. You can also add ginger or green onions to it, or a bit if your favorite no calorie sweetener to make it a bit sweeter.

It’s also super good if you add smoked paprika and other spices to the coating (I’m assuming you’ve used cornflour?)… Opens up a world of flavours

Ok so this may sound weird but I personally love it so much.
Mix almond butter with dijon mustard, salt, lemon, some soy sauce and a little of apple cider vinegar. It’s creamy, tangy, nutty- so good imo.

Just curious, how do you cook your tofu to get it this crispy? Also I second the person that said sweet and sour.

Japanese bbq sauce from Costco!

Soy sauce with some sugar and lemon – heat it in the pan and then put the tofu in it.

I like soy sauce.

Mayo-ketchup/pink suace
Edit- by default I meant vegan mayo, but I realize I can’t generalize everyone’s mayo choice.

Mix soy sauce (coconut aminos) & rice vinegar. Then mix either chili oil from Trader Joe’s in it or sambal oelek chili paste and adjust to your spice tolerance.
I’ve added monkfruit sugar to it before and that’s bomb too.
A plus if you also add minced garlic to it. Not the premade stuff tho cuz it doesn’t taste the same.

Sesame! Ketchup, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, bit of brown sugar and rice wine. And of course, sesame seeds. If you or anyone is curious, check my post history for the last time I shared a sesame chicken meal prep because I included the quantities of each ingredient for the sauce as well.

I really like it with tzatziki and pepperoncinis. Tzatziki is: greek yogurt (I use 70g), 1/4 cucumber diced, little bit of lemon juice, garlic powder, oregano, salt, tiny bit of olive oil (not required). Stir. I like dipping tofu in the tzatziki then top with a bit of pepperoncini.

Really enjoy it in sweet chilli. But if looking to reduce sugar calories would try maybe a soy and ginger mix made from scratch with a little sweetener

I came to say siracha Mayo but I feel like that’s slightly void after all of these ideas 🤤

The sauce you like most and fits the rest of the dish is the best one.

If it doesn’t, try another one.
It’s really just as simple as that.
