I bought this Jarlsberg cheese last week and opened it today noticing this sawdust like substance on the cheese. It doesn’t seem to be connected very well and easily comes off is it a product of cutting the cheese off the block or is it mold?

looks to be growing. i would normally say to cut it off and eat, but that is a pretty thin slice. i would toss it
