Iām using stock images but I am always on the lookout for new cheeses to try whenever I go to the store. Credit to āTaste Atlas” for the cheese image and cheese facts. If any of you know some cheeses that I havenāt done yet I would love some input!
Here is your daily cheese facts: Skyr is an Icelandic cultured dairy product made from cheese, characterized by its thick and creamy texture. Although it is so thick that it can almost be sliced, it contains 0% milk fat. It is said that skyr dates back to the 9th century, when Norwegian settlers first arrived in Iceland. Today, it is sold in stores and comes in a variety of flavors such as blueberry or vanilla. Skyr is incredibly versatile and can be consumed on its own, made into a smoothie with added fresh fruit and ice, or act as a replacement for sour cream. Traditionally, it is served cold and topped with sugar or honey. Skyr may also be used in a traditional Icelandic dish called hrƦringur, consisting of porridge and skyr in equal amounts. It’s important to note that Skyr belongs to a category that’s somewhere between cheese and yogurt.
Also as a note: I post my daily cheese here as well as in my r/dailycheese subreddit.

Had no idea it’s sorta in the cheese extended family! The vanilla one with some fresh berries on top, delicious.

Skyr uses rennet so it technically is cheese.

Originally a type of cheese. Made with skyr culture and rennet in bags to drain whey. Today, it’s mostly made by ultrafiltration. So it’s more of a yogurt type of product.

Good skyr would totally count as cheese! We get an insane organic goats milk skyr where I live and I eat it like a less crumbly chĆØvre, slathered on toast or mixed into salad dressing. Iām on the skyr as cheese train all the way!

Even in Iceland, skyr is indistinguishable from Greek yogurt.
