Iām using stock images but I am always on the lookout for new cheeses to try whenever I go to the store. Credit to āTaste Atlas” for the cheese image and cheese facts. If any of you know some cheeses that I havenāt done yet I would love some input!
Here is your daily cheese facts: Leyden cheese (Leidse kaas in Dutch) is semi-hard, cumin and caraway seed flavoured cheese made in the Netherlands. Made from pasteurised cow’s milk, Leyden is very similar to Gouda in shape (round and flat) but has a lower fat percentage, about 30 to 40%. This Dutch cheese is produced in factories and traditionally on farms in the historic area of Leiden (Leyden). The addition of cumin seeds gives the cheese a distinctively dry, tangy and spicy flavour, very unlike other Dutch cheeses. Cloves and Caraway seeds are also added occasionally for that extra boost. Leyden is a perfect addition to any cheese platter. Pairing it with an ice-cold beer or a Shiraz and dark malty bread will do wonders.
Also as a note: I post my daily cheese here as well as in my r/dailycheese subreddit.
