Found this in between the rind and cheese part of my beer cheese. Is it okay and is the cheese safe to eat? Tastes fine, but the yellowy skin tastes inedible.

    The nose knows.

If there’s no slime, it should be fine,

When it doubt, throw it out.

  2. I don’t know, I can’t inspect it, smell it, or taste it. But you can, so do those things.

  3. Not sure what that specific cheese is, but it looks similar to edam. Personally, I love that darker orange skin between the cheese and wax.

  4. That’s edam, the yellowy stuff is the skin, you can eat it if you want. I like it, but it’s not for everyone.

  5. Lots of waxed rind cheeses are double layered, one clear coat and then one colored coat. I suspect it’s just that clear wax coating!
