Recently bought this Appenzeller White Label as it was on sale. Can’t lie, I don’t like the flavor of it at all on its own. Any ideas for dishes to incorporate it into?

  1. That will melt very easily. Put into a Mac and cheese with other stuff you like or do the same with a grilled cheese. Or make fondue!

  2. I love Appenzeller in an omelette with mushrooms and scallions (and chopped habanero, but it’s not essential). I cook the veggies lightly in olive oil, remove them from the pan, melt the cheese in the frying pan before adding the eggs and once a little firm, add the warm veggies and immediately fold the omelette and remove from the heat.

Just tried this for the first time the other day and damn it is freaking DELICIOUS. Just been having it straight up and at one point I melted it on some sourdough for an egg sandwich. Terrific cheese!

Appenzeller is one of my go-to cheeses for an omelette. It really shines in egg dishes in general (quiches, fritattas, etc). It’s also not terribly expensive, which is a plus.

  5. I’m surprised you get that Swiss cheese in the US. Pretty great! 🇨🇭

Grate it over anything… Swiss people also like to replace Parmesan with Gruyère or Appenzeller. Give it a try

I did not either despite being a cheeseholic. I put it in lasagna and it was delicious.
