Omg following. I never found one and my stirfry dishes have suffered as a consequence.

  2. TJ’s sells this but in a powder form. Chili oil seasoning I think is what it’s called.

Not a direct substitute but I am getting my chili spice fix from kimchi. It usually made with lettuce and also rich with probiotics and yummy.

  4. My favorite, Monofuku! Momofuku Spicy Chili Crisp contains 35 calories per 1 teaspoon (5g) serving. So a tablespoon of this would still be under 200 cals.

  5. femme_bruleee on

I make my own and use less oil than the recipe calls for. Also use super hot chiles so that you don’t need as much

  6. I don’t see how it could be 200 calories per tablespoon. Pure oil is 120. My guess is 100-120

  7. Just use this but less of it. 10g is plenty to throw on my meal, you do still get the flavour and it’s only 72 cals. That’s worth it for me!

  8. Oh shoot i never thought to look at the calories of chili crisp smh

We really cant have anything can we? lol

  9. I’ve always wanted to try this but the calorie count has scared me off! I loooove Huy Fong sambal oelek chili paste. I wonder if that plus a teaspoon of avocado oil and a bit of soy sauce would create something similar?

  10. Lee Kum Kee Chiu Chow Style Chili Crisp Oil?

1 teaspoon = 30 calories, so 1 tbsp would be about 90 instead of 200.

Or for something more extreme, but probably less yummy – maybe try including some of its elements in powder form, cutting out the oil?

    Chili flakes
    Salt
    Onion powder or onion crisp
    MSG
Something to provide extra umami as a replacement for the fermented soy beans – maybe a porcini mushroom powder
    Sugar

I put sambal oelek on everything. It doesn’t have as much heat as the chili crisp but it’s also significantly lower in calories.

  12. Oh man, my family loves this stuff! Unrelated but my son (6) asked if the person on the logo was Josh from Blue’s Clues LOL

  13. WAIT….. it’s 200 calories per serving?! No fucking wonder I’m still fat. 😭

  14. typingfrombed on

The calorie count is primarily the fact that it is oil based. If you get anything with a base of oil, it will be similarly caloric. When I use it, I mostly use just the crisp part and dispose of the oil part

I just found a jar of chilli crisp, it’s SO good 😭 It’s so fucking good.

  16. jfc is it really 200 cals per tbs? My mom literally just bought me a jar that I havent gone and picked up yet. Guess I’ll just tell her to hang onto it then

  17. explore_erolpxe on

I feel personally attacked by this you can never take her from me 😩 1/2 tsp at a time

  18. Isn’t it tragic 😭 this is why I always scratch my head when ppl say they don’t track seasonings/sauces etc. I personally don’t like all the oil separation in that you’re showing. Momofuku does a chili crunch- not much less on the calories but definitely a better experience imo

OH MY I miss this so much 😭 It’s been so long since I bought this because if I have it around I’ll never be able to stick to my calorie budget.. My deary lao gan ma..

  20. It’s oil. What did you expect?

Use a little, try out different hot sauces, look for vinegar based ones.

  21. I love Huy Fong chili garlic sauce. I love it more than chili crisp, and it has almost no calories.

  22. TheDoctor1601 on

I recently started making my own and while there is still a lot of oil and salt, it at least costs less lol !!

  23. A jar of chopped calabrian chili peppers in oil is a nice alternative and is usually about 30 or 40 calories per ounce.

  24. FleshlightModel on

I love Lee Kum Kee Chiu Chow. Probably same amount of calories though but different flavor.

  25. wiglessleetaemin on

i don’t have an alternative. i just use the chili crisp and cut out calories with other things.

edit: me and my mom are chinese and put this on many things. i don’t think a low cal replacement truly exists.

  26. i have no idea but my husband keeps buying this shit thinking it’s magic seasoning and doesn’t understand it’s literally just oil.

about to trash the rest of the jars of this shit
