Just bought some delicious and a little bit too expensive cheese from the farmer’s market. I cut into it and there’s some mold growing in places – it looks like there were breaks in the rind. It’s cow/goat milk hard cheese called Broncha. My wife and I are both a little sketchy about eating it now – you can see in addition to the mold spots that I dug out, there is a darkened section. Thoughts, cheez experts?

  1. In general I know a fair amount about cheese; I make my own and have probably eaten my weight a couple times over. This just seems like a possible contamination vs. a desirable mold.

  2. If possible you should take it back to the stand you got it from and ask. My first impression is this looks like contamination and not fun mold

Yeah.. I have my doubts too. A hard cheese like that should not have mold like that on the inside. Outside, oh yeah, makes it all tasty. But on the inside makes me think that there was too much moisture in there… I’d definitely reach out to the cheesemaker/farmers market vendor to confirm.

  4. You had to ask? Why would you need a second opinion on that? Please understand that these kinds of posts are super annoying around here. This is a place to discuss cheese and our love thereof. This should not be a place you stop into once in your life to ask a question with a blatantly obvious answer
