What did r/chefit say? This is not the sub for this setup.

Attractive potatoes, your peppercorn ramekin is cracked, good looking cook on steak, but I’m not sure about the whatever is happening with the alternating seared pieces.
Not even going to get into the rosemary thing, minus one point. Edit: minus half a point because it appears to be grilled, at least
It’s not really plated, is it? That being said, I’d be impressed outside of a restaurant

Tons of potential. Steak is a bit under. Would love to see the plating. This looks family style

Steak needed maybe another 5° internal, and another 5 minutes to rest. Angle all of the pieces the same so it looks congruent, ditch the rosemary and sub for some finishing salt or a little herb oil (I use rosemary and sage, sous vide in olive oil, immersion blend, pass through cheese cloth). Potatoes look fantastic (and very well prepared assuming they’re cooked through – I have issues with slices that thick), but what’s the sauce?
Great effort all around, and I critique myself just as harshly.

Agree with the previous feedback about the steak. The pommes boulangère looks stunning. I’d love that recipe!

Raw steak and awkwardly displayed, full sprig of rosemary, unpeeled garlic, cracked ramekin, oversaturated and zoomed photo. I dunno, looks like a miss. Potatoes look good you could have convinced me it was an apple dessert.

Beating this dead horse still eh?

funny that most of the criticism has to do with portion size and or steak doneness. I think maybe it’s too much potatoes, but it all looks fantastic aside from cracked crockery. and that’s a hell of a great photo – curious about your photography setup on this.
the rosemary is there soley for a food blog photo garnish. you know what they say, nothing on the plate that isn’t mean to be eaten , even if it looks nice

Why is the OP such an a$$Hole in their comments? The rules of the sub are listed, chill out.

Thanks for posting an “Amateur attempt, looking for feedback”- plating needs a butt load of work. Plating is where you use your artistic alter-EGO to present an artful, creative display that enhances the food. Think of it as a blank canvas. Your canvas needs work. The food items you prepared look fabulous! The plating, well, not so much. Cracked or damaged vessels are absolutely not “amateur”, they are disgusting! Even at a home cooked meal!! A light colored sauce/side should be in a darker colored vessel. The Pommes Boulanger – clean up the sides of the dish! The steak is arranged artfully with the sautéed rosemary sprig, however, we cannot see the entire dish on the plate! You need to take this feedback as intended. Step back, take a long look at what you are presenting and move forward. You got this.

Dish holding the potatoes needs to be wiped. That cracked ramekin looks awful and cheap, throw it out ASAP. Steak needs a bit of refinement, as the oversaturation on the photo doesn’t hide the gray band. The rosemary looks tacky and the unpeeled clove of garlic just looks stupid.
Protip, this isn’t the sub to post home cooked meals in the hopes for circlejerking and upvotes. Either expect to be criticized harshly with minimal praise or go back to instagram.
