As the post says: am visiting an old friend from France who is a cheese monger and I want to get him something unique from the US that would be good as a gift. I’d live to hear your thoughts. All the most amazing cheeses i’ve had have been from Europe and I’m not sure what to get him that they don’t already have? Maybe I should get him some [Government Cheese](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_cheese)

You should get them something from cypress grove or jasper hill too if you wanted to get them something fancy as well
French person in the US here: I would get them some great US cheeses, such as a good blue (eg. Rogue River blue), a nice washed rind (eg. Red Hawk), and a good cheddar (eg. Jasper Hill Clothbound Cheddar).
You might add some things such as government cheese as a joke, but many French people already think American cheeses are a uniform block of Dorito-orange plastic, so giving them some of the good stuff is imo not a bad idea.
Queso – Culinary Cowgirls is a good store-bought brand.
Some canned Cougar Gold cheese from Washington State University
Cougar gold
Harbison if you can!
Midnight Moon from Cypress Grove
Check out Saxelby’s, they distribute a lot of great American artisanal options
Get them a 5lbs log of porkroll. Any cheese monger should appreciate that.
Barely Buzzed is an option too.
I’m going to add Thomasville Tomme to the list of suggestions. Also, Shakerag Blue, because it’s like Rogue River, but instead of pear brandy, the leaves are soaked in bourbon and that’s more “American.”
Humboldt Fog
Monterrey Jack/ pepper Jack , good cheddar (cloth bound aged), Bayley Hazel blue.
