  1. Recipe:

2.5 cups masa harina (mine was 378g)
    2-2.5 cups water
    Salt

Mix into a dough, knead so that everything is incorporated, split into 8 balls and let rest.

472g black beans (I stewed these the night before with better than bouillon, bay leaf and home made chilli paste but you can also just stew some canned ones for a while until soft)

    78g light Mozzarella type shred
    20g pecorino Romano

Mix beans and cheese, and weigh/divide into 8 equal portions

The hard part is filling the dough, for this you should watch a YouTube tutorial ๐Ÿ™‚

    Makes 8 portions

You can fry them naked, but i used 5 grams of ghee.

Leftovers can be frozen before frying ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. Next time make the Curtido with it! Itโ€™s just cabbage, carrots, and onions mostly so itโ€™s also low cal. ๐Ÿ™‚ [Hereโ€™s a recipe for it.](https://youtu.be/WMkYR2AVJb0) Thereโ€™s also salsa de tomate that goes really well with them too if you wanna go all out lol.

Also for future low cal inspiration thereโ€™s also spinach and cheese as well as zucchini and cheese ones that are also really good!

I suppose I COULD fry them naked, but I’m afraid of the hot spatter. ๐Ÿ™‚

Fucccckkkkk pupusas are one of my favorite foods I discovered in Cali. When I went back home I called every single even vaguely Hispanic restaurant and asked for them – half of the people didnโ€™t know, a quarter of them laughed and thought I was making it up, and the other quarter knew but said no they didnโ€™t have any ๐Ÿ˜ž so sad! Now thanks to you tho I can make them myself! ๐Ÿ˜€

  5. your pupusas look great! normally they are a bit thinner than this but it looks like you did a good job stuffing them. ๐Ÿ™‚ i wish i had some right now. this isolation life has me living off chicken nuggets and freezer fries.

I love pupusas! Have made them before but forgot how cheap they are to make. Thanks for the reminder, I need some good cheap meals while Iโ€™m unemployed!

  7. Oh man, thereโ€™s this little El Salvadoran pupusarie back home that had the beeeeeeest chayote y queso pupusas, the curtido was so spicy and the salsa was perfect. Omg I wanna go home.

  8. Ok so I absolutely love pupusas more than anything. I discovered them in the freezer section of my grocery store and went about 6 months of eating them every week. I know they arenโ€™t the same as homemade and Iโ€™m now on a quest to make these! Thanks for sharing!!

  9. I made arepas for the first time and topped them with beans and corn on Sunday. I might try this next time.

  11. Its looking very delicious! I also live in Germany so it will take time till i can try to make them but it is worth it :).

You did a wonderful job! There’s a joke for Salvadoreรฑos that if you get a “squared” pupusa you did a lazy job, gut gemacht ๐Ÿ™‚

If you would like to try a different variation if available to you in Germany get “Enriched Rice Flour” from the brand Goya.

Making them with rice flour will take a little more trial and error and it is more filling than corn flour pupusas.

In terms of calories I think they’re about the same 60g rice is 240, 60g corn is 220.

Also don’t be afraid to flatten them out and the fillings ooze out, my favorite part to eat is when the cheese gets fried because it escaped out of the masa.

  13. Had to google them… I live in a small town in Australia …. love them, making them
