As someone from the geographical location of a banquet burger, I’m going to politely decline.

American cheese, caramelized onions and ketchup and yellow mustard have been my go to for burgers lately and I’m not even a burger person. Oh yeah, some pickles too.

I’ll dissent and choose *almost* anything but american cheese for burgers…

there is no one cheese for burgers. deli slice american is my go-to for a traditional cheeseburger, but i do a bacon burger with onion straws and red pepper jelly that wouldn’t be the same without blue cheese, the butterkase stuffed burger with caramelized onions and roasted garlic wouldn’t be improved by subbing in american cheese, the spicy marinara burger with mozzarella sticks and provolone is its own thing, bbq sauced burgers are better with cheddar… classic sauteed mushrooms on a burger are great with swiss…
don’t limit yourself. there’s a whole world of cheeses that have their own burger niches

Umm no. Swiss is the proper addition to a smash burger with mushrooms, no exceptions.

Cheddar is better. That’s why they both rhyme.

Manchego is better. Americans act like they created every damn dish and ingredients to ever exist and have perfected everything. That’s why most countries cant stand America. I’m American (unfortunately) and we are so self absorbed. Only Americans think American Cheese and Cheddar is the best cheese for a Burger. Expand your damn palettes and try other cheeses. Smoked Gouda, Gruyere, Raclette

British cheese is better than American

American from the Deli, yay!. blue is also good depending on other toppings.
American, swiss, gruyere, meunster, PEPPERJACK FO SHO, bleu…if you haven’t tried a bacon and bleu burger I don’t know what to tell you. This is not an exhaustive list.
Regular smash burgs? ‘Merican
grilled burger? Pile up the mushrooms and blue cheese.
Favorite burger? Smashed patty melt, Grilled onion, double Swiss, double pickles.
Always onion rings and fries combo

Gonna disagree. What makes many people like American is that it melts well and it’s cheap and easy. But there are other cheeses that also melt well.
Pepper jack is one of my go-tos. Also if you get rid of the rind on a Brie (or any of the soft cheeses) it works pretty well and is quite good. I actually have been known to put Brie in breakfast burritos.
But American is traditional and I’m not above it.

Nah man, gouda, fontina, pepperjack, swiss are all good.

Real mature cheddar from england
Gouda, old or smoked (not both) is the best choice every single time, 100% of the time.
