It's crazy how much I used to cook with copious amounts of cream and butter. Going back to look at old photos, some of the things look so appetizing but had to be over 1500 calories for just one plate. Photos:Chicken and sweet potato for lunch. 473cal. Nostalgic Cajun pasta recipe from days of bad habits, prob 1600 calories haha.

  1. glad things are working out! I know your pasta dish is ‘cajun’ but I think like how subway convinced us it was normal to eat a foot long sub, Olive Garden made people think it was normal to eat a large plate of spaghetti. I bet a third of that pasta dish would make you pretty happy for lunch or dinner with a salad… might be hard to not want more by the looks of it.

  2. Same here! My husband told me the other day that heโ€™s lost weight too since I started cooking more simply and without all the heavy cream.

  3. Hey so sometimes the second picture is actually what your body needs. Fat is essential for our bodies. No food on your picture is better or worse. Maybe worse if you wanna stick to a diet of low calories but after that, just enjoy life!

I still cook my old, calorie dense recipes I just portion them out really small into my souper cubes and think of them as a fun side course like the mac and creamed spinach at a steak house

Yes, the second picture looks much better! The first pic would be great if only you seasoned your meat ๐Ÿ˜•

The first pic confused me so much because at first I wondered why your chicken was a weird purple color.

  7. If you’re happy with the chicken and sweet potato, great. I feel like there’s a middle ground here though too..
I’ve found my cooking has gotten more flavorful and adventurous since counting calories. I have to keep myself interested in it, so I’ve found so many more fun and tasty recipes, or scaled back quantities of something like your second picture and supplemented with veggies.

Iโ€™m probably the only one here who thinks the chicken and sweet potato looks better then the pasta. Love a good chicken and potato meal!!
