First time making my own pasta sauce and it tastes 10x better than any sauce I’ve had out of a jar. Also it was way easier to make than I expected!! Very very happy with it!

  1. Congrats on making pasta from scratch! This is one of many cooking experiences where as soon as you learn how easy it is you’ll never go back to “easier” ways of cooking.

If you’re early into cooking I’d recommend looking at recipes from Jamie Oliver. He gets a lot of hate but his whole deal is making recipes that are simple enough that anyone can do them, building up confidence to be a better cook.

You can roast tomatoes in the oven and then use them for sauce

Even just a can of San marzano tomatoes and salt beats any jarred sauce

  4. This is why I can’t stand going to Italian restaurants and getting macaroni and sauce. It’s so easy to make and there’s 20 different ways to make it.

  5. The next trick is to add extra water to the pasta sauce and cook the pasta directly in the pasta sauce.

    More flavorful
And the pasta starch thickens the sauce

Looks good! I have had good results from Giada’s marinara sauce. It was so tasty I ate it with a spoon, like soup. Granted, it’s hard to mess up a marinara, and you can make it taste however you want: fresh and zesty or long-cooked to richness.

So much easier and way better than the jarred stuff. Super worth the extra like… 2 steps lol

Oh it’s boss. Now google how to make home made soups, same thing. Unreal, and way better than anything out of a can.

As well as ranch dressing. Cut back on some of the mayo+buttermilk with some greek yogurt, tastes 90% similar with half the calories.

when you use tomatos THAT good it is hard to screw it up- just don’t burn it!

Did you make the meatballs too? Next try making pasta from scratch if you’re into that. That is super easy to do as well and fresh pasta is also worlds better than any store bought.

  11. Using the tomato can as a spoon holder is a wily veteran move. You’ve got the sauce-game of a seasoned pro.

  12. I love making pasta. Nothing feels quiet like cooking more than a delicious pasta recipe.

Just want to mention that’s not the best place for your wine.

On can of san marzano tomatoes
    Half stick of butter
    One onion cut in half

Put all in pot. Simmer for an hour while smashing tomatoes. Remove onion, enjoy, thank me later.

Super simple recipe that you think would need more seasonings and ingredients, but trust me, it does not. So good.

  14. Brava! Well done. Easy. Better. Cheaper. Now learn to make the pasta, too. Unbelievably easy. After that… bread!!!

A good red sauce with just some olive oil, basil, garlic, tomatoes, and salt is like a gateway into cooking.

Once you feel comfortable with that, you’ll start feeling like a lot of other things aren’t so much a mystery.

It’s super easy! I make a giant pot, and include some vegetables and Italian sausage, then freeze it. Awesome sauce that’s as easy as opening a jar!

Good choice of tomato. I tend to use Cento San Marzano for my sauces and it always comes out great.

One of the best pasta sauces is also one of the most simple. Marcela Hazan’s recipe is canned imported Italian tomatoes, half and onion, and a lot of butter. Simmer and remove the onion from the pot before serving. Salt to taste.

It’s super easy and I usually have all the ingredients on hand in case I don’t know what to make for dinner! Great job!

100% with the San Marzanos, for just my wife and I I literally just dump those into the pan and crush them then cook it down for the sauce, no paste or anything needed. Recently started frying diced Pancetta to put in it as well and it is soooo tasty

Also tomatoes are one of the easiest plants to grow if you have a little garden.

OP, this was me 10 years ago. I learned how to make pasta sauce. Now I bake my own bread, cook dinner most nights, and have really expanded my pallet.

So excited for your cooking journey! Congrats! 🥳

  23. Super easy. I recommend sauteing garlic and half a yellow onion in olive oil before adding your tomato-whatever. I blend it all up because my kiddos are kinda picky. Yellow onion adds some flavor and sweetness.

Try this again but with Bianco DiNapoli tomoatoes. Without a doubt the best I’ve ever had.

If I may offer some advice.

Saute broccoli, onions, garlic, bell peppers/colored peppers, carrots and some cauliflower in oil. Mix in your canned tomatoes, blend it all together. It’ll look orange at first, as it thickens, it will turn nice red. Then you can add some sugar (splenda) as needed, lemon juice, oregano, salt pepper, spicy peppers, etc. You can’t identify the veggies in the sauce, but they taste really good. I’ve been added veggies to my kids pasta like this for YEARS.
