  2. Everyone commenting on the plainness of the look and not realizing this is likely hainanese chicken, in which the chicken is poached in different aromatics and the rice is cooked in chicken broth. Extremely flavorful regional Chinese dish.

  3. Maybe repost with a more descriptive title. To my uncultured ass, this looks like unseasoned steamed chicken and rice.

it does look blank but I’d try it… they could keep that fucking poached wing though that’s going to be horrible.

  5. It’s a straight forward seeming dish, but I’ve had it before and it’s not bad. It has subtle flavors and let’s the rice and chicken be the main attraction

Where are all the hainanese chicken rice experts who were jumping down that other woman’s throat for her chicken rice

Love Hainanese chicken rice. When done right it’s one of the most simple, yet flavorful and aromatic dishes you will ever have.

I got PTSD flashbacks when I saw this on my feed. Went through the comments and I understand it’s actually good.

My ex MIL (white as they come) used to make chicken, rice and vegetables but with literally no seasoning whatsoever, not even salt/pepper

Yes, not even on the rice, it was literally just bland white rice with bland chicken, not a single speck of any sort of seasoning in sight, at least the chicken was grilled I guess. I’m middle eastern so I’m used to flavourful food and that messed me up for a while, even my ex slowly started realizing her mom needed to at least use salt

  9. Gonna get some downvotes, but I’ve had chicken rice in China, Singapore, Malaysia, and the US… and it’s just fine. I wouldn’t call it bland but I would call it somewhat boring.

The chicken is really just a vehicle for the sauce. I prefer an oily ginger sauce with Hainan chicken, maybe a drizzle of sesame sauce

Singaporean here (its my national dish), and id agree it looks bland, but thats because it aint mixed yet.

You gotta throw the entire chilli into the rice and mix it up, also this might be seen as heresy by my fellow locals but I enjoy wetting up the rice by adding a tablespoon or two of the soup too

Just because it looks bland does not mean it is bland haha.

Literally poached in very aromatic broth that the chicken absorbs.

  13. Chicken rice is a dish I get intense cravings for. If chicken rice is on a restaurant’s menu – I’m going to order it. Also, for anyone who hasn’t cooked it before l, it’s actually super easy to cook!

Hainanese Chicken is absolutely amazing, don’t let the plain poached appearance fool you, it super tasty and served with chili sauce and soy sauce.

Another poached chicken dish is Cantonese white cut chicken which is served with ginger scallion sauce to compliment the natural taste of the chicken. With poached chicken dishes you can really taste the natural taste of the chicken without spices overpowering the taste, the sauces are used to compliment the natural taste of the chicken.

Honestly, looks so good. Even simple ingredients when prepared really nicely are perfect. This is the type of thing I eat when my stomach can’t handle anything else, and it brings comfort and nutrition. To me, that’s good!
