I think it taste closer to Jiaozi with a more peppery meat stuffing, as Ravioli’s wrapping is very pasta like.

This is not Ukrainian. This is Ural and Siberian dish. The word “pelmeni” comes from the Komi and Udmurt languages (Finno-Ugric peoples from the Ural region), where “pel’” means “ear” and “nyan” means “bread,” thus “pelnyan” refers to “ear bread,” describing the dumpling’s shape.
