The last one I tried was The Protein Works Diet Whey and it was crap — super artificial aftertaste, weird gritty texture, and it made my stomach feel off every time I drank it.
EDIT: Finally found what I was after. Saw this review online, bought it and wow it tastes good.
Trying to find something that actually tastes nice with just water or almond milk and doesn’t feel like punishment to drink.
Been looking at MyProtein Impact Whey (Chocolate Brownie) and PHD Diet Whey Chocolate — both seem popular but I’ve seen mixed reviews on flavour and mixability
I’m not fussed about super fancy ingredients I just want something high protein that has a decent taste.
Would love any recs that have worked for you.

Ultra Fuel- Triple Chocolate, can get on Amazon
I personally mix a scoop with cold water in my shaker cup (shake it good) and it’s taste is close enough to actual chocolate that I drink it all quite quickly. I also like that they’re isn’t anything fancy about this brand, it just has great calorie to gram of protein ratio
I really like Premier protein, but I haven’t tried the chocolate one, but I love the cake batter. Fair life is pretty decent. Oh, you said powder sorry these are ready to drink.
If you live in the US, [Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard](https://www.optimumnutrition.com/en-us/Products/Shakes-&-Powders/GOLD-STANDARD-100%25-WHEY%E2%84%A2/p/gold-standard-100-whey-protein) whey is fantastic. It’s pretty well-priced, widely available, mixes super well and tastes awesome.
I usually do the vanilla ice cream, but I’ve tried Chocolate Malt (LOVE), Chocolate Peanut Butter (my boyfriend liked it, but it was not my favorite for every day use), and the Double Rich Chocolate (also very good).
He mixes it with milk and cold brew and it makes a fantastic frappy-tasting drink. I’m deranged so I just mix mine with water and choke it down lol, but it’s really good either way!
I’ve been on a liquid diet for the last 3 weeks due to a dental procedure and have been living off of the Elevation protien powder from Aldi. I use oat milk and the chocolate powder, it’s pretty damn good and mixes well! Oat milk is superior to help with creaminess, in my opinion.
Bornwinner,if you’re in Europe. All flavours from the brand are great, they’re easyaf to dissolve and taste amazing, în my opinion. They never upset my stomach either but I’ve never tried then with water .
Quest
Designer Wellness protein powders are the only ones I can drink mixed with water only.
I really like Orgain’s Creamy Chocolate Fudge protein powder. It’s plant-based, 21g of protein per serving. I do two scoops with about 16-20 oz of unsweetened almond milk and ice in my blender bottle.
Iso100
I love myprotein and I also love Ghost!! Ghost makes one that can specifically be made into HOT CHOCOLATE which is amazing, because most other proteins when heated will denature the protein or just get a weird texture. I have that one on hand year round!
Tribe. I’m in London and don’t know if they stock it where you are in the world but it’s the only one I’ve enjoyed after trying a few different brands.
I feel this. I think almost every chocolate protein powder/shake I’ve tried has tasted kinda like dirt.
I personally like the chocolate Premier Protein powder. I prefer it with almond milk over water. It’s also really good to mix a scoop in with a container of plain greek yogurt to satisfy a pudding/mousse craving
RAW nutrition’s Dark chocolate is amazing
We have a local one in VA that is called Resilience Driven. It blends very well with just water. Adding almond milk creates a nice malty blend. I think 125 cals per serving. They only have vanilla and chocolate at this time. I enjoy it!

Fairlife core power is so tasty
I can no longer use whey protein due to the fast digesting nature of it which causes me stomach upset. I started using protein powder and shakes that use complete milk protein, which is naturally 80% casein/20% whey. I use Vital Proteins Performance chocolate protein powder. One major difference I noticed is that it isn’t super sweet. I actually like the protein powder to be sweeter so I add sugar free chocolate syrup to my unsweetened almond milk and protein powder, lol. But if you prefer protein shakes that aren’t super sweet, this is a good one. It’s still sweetened but way less so than any other protein powders I’ve tried such as Premier, Optimum Nutrition, etc. and I like that it’s made from milk protein isolate so it has both fast digesting and slow digesting protein to keep me fuller, + they add collagen to it.
I got a jar of Ryse cosmic brownie and it’s pretty good. Target had a 50% sale so I got a bunch of flavors and this one is good.
For the vegans (or anyone with dairy allergies like myself), I love GoodProtein’s Chocolate Fudge. I was shocked by how good their flavours are. Specifically obsessed with Peanut Butter at the moment.
Dymatize ISO100
I went from Momentous to Simple Truth and that one is actually really good.
I personally really like Dymatize’s Cocoa Pebbles protein powder! It says to mix a scoop into 5-6oz of milk or water (which I do not think is enough because it turns to a weird consistency), but I do 8oz and it works perfectly fine. I make smoothies with it every morning and they always turn out great!
Straight pea protein powder plus a little cocoa powder gets you chocolate protein powder with no fillers or sweeteners (if you’re eating it in something with bananas or dates that sweetens the dish)
I use ISO100 gourmet chocolate. I enjoy it. Nice chocolate taste but gets clumpy in super hot things.
