  1. Yeah think it’s 540. 3 bags per box, so each bag has 3 servings (180*3=540).

The only thing that might make it not exactly 540 is that it says “about” 9 servings per container, so it could actually have 8.7 or 9.2 or whatever servings. Does it indicate anywhere on the packaging how many grams total are in the box or in each bag?

  2. I’ve counted calories for years and microwave popcorn is the ONLY label I have never figured out

Why am I getting 360 somebody help 😭😂

I’m going based off popped. So if 2 tbsp makes 3 cups popped, and there are 9 servings (of 2 tbsp), that means there are 27 cups popped? Right? 3×9 am I stupid 😭

Then 27 x 40 is 1080? (For the whole box)

    So then 1080 / 3 = 360

    Someone help me lmfao

EDIT BECAUSE I FORGOT SOMETHING IMPORTANT

  4. lumpy_space_queenie on

Why wouldn’t you calculate this based off of popped? Instead of unpopped? Wouldn’t you do popped since that’s how you’re eating it?

  5. _UrethaFranklin on

Let’s all agree it’s 300 because math sucks and we hate it just as much as those kernels that remain unpopped.

600 calories if you eat the bag and unpopped kernels.

  6. Cokezerowh0re on

How much does the unpopped bag weigh? If it’s 100g then 545

    180 divided by 33 = 5.45 per gram

    5.45 x 100 (g) = 545

  7. Let’s break it down….

    Servings per container about 9
Serving Size – 2 Tbsp (which is 3 cups each)
Under the Per 2 Tbsp unpopped – 180 calories.

Serving Size Calories * Servings Per Container = Total Calories
    180 * ~9 = ~1620 calories a container.

    ~1620 / 3 bags = ~540 calories a bag.

  8. Approximately 540. What’s the weight (in grams) on the front of the box? You can divide that number by 3 (to get mass per bag), then divide by 33 and multiply by 180 to get calories per bag.

  9. Update for those asking : NET WT 9.9 OZ (281 G), each bag is 3.3oz
    Thanks for all the answers!

You’re correct, it should be 540 calories assuming there’s 9 tbsp of popcorn kernels in each bag.

The reason why the label is confusing is because there’s some omission of information here which the company expects you to already know. It’s because **not all kernels will pop,** you may have noticed before when cooking popcorn but there’s always a few tough shells that just won’t pop no matter what. The company’s calculated that out of 180 calories worth of kernels only about 120 calories will pop into edible popcorn or about 2/3rd of the kernels overall. Which means that each tbsp of kernel yields about 60 calories worth of popped popcorn.

Nothing like the way this subreddit comes together when someone needs help reading a popcorn label. 😆

If there are 9 serving in the box and 3 bags per box. One box would have 3 servings. A serving is 2 tablespoons of kernels which makes 3 cups of popcorn. So there are 3*2 tablespoons in the bag which is 6 tablespoons total. 3 cups popped every 2 tablespoons. 3 sets of 2. Or 6/2= 3. 3 servings at 3 cups per serving. 3*3= 9 cups popped *40 calories = 360 calories per entire bag.

Yeah that’s simple yet complicated… anyways 360 calories per bag of POPPED popcorn.

    Edited to add Popped popcorn.

  13. 540 calories per bag. These are notoriously complicated and I feel like they do it on purpose.

9 servings per container so 180 calories * 9 servings = 1,620 calories per box. Divide 1,620 calories by the 3 bags and you get 540 calories per bag which seems pretty average for a bag of microwaveable popcorn.

  14. This is why everyone should own a digital kitchen scale. Pop popcorn, zero out the scale with a bowl on it, dump the popped corn into the bowl, log the weight of the popped corn.

Not eating out of the bag will keep your hands cleaner too.

American products are the worst. Why can’t they just list nutrition facts per 100g? This is absolutely insane an unacceptable

I literally thought this the other day. It made my brain hurt and I just didn’t make it. Lol

Okay let’s break this down. There is 9 servings in total in the entire box. There are 3 bags of popcorn, so one bag is 3 servings. 1 serving is 2 tbsp of unpopped kernels so 6 tbsp per bag. 6 tbsp is 540 calories. If you go by cups you come to the conclusion that there is 9 cups per bag, and at 40 cals per cup the total is 360. Between 360 and 540 is your answer, I would just measure out how many kernels actually popped after it has been microwaved because a 180 calorie margin of error is bonkers !!!

  18. If this isn’t a bag and it’s just a bunch of kernels then you’ll want to know how much to put in the pot to cook.

If it’s a bag then I have no idea why anyone would care how much precooked is.

  19. If this is microwave popcorn in a bag, I assume 1 container = 1 microwave bag. Therefore 1 bag would be 1,620.

I measure the amount of food in the bag pre popped because I plan to eat all of it.

If you can’t figure it out do the following:
1 popped cup is 40 calories.
So put the bag in the microwave, let it pop, then grab a cup, and take as many cups of popcorn as you want and place them in a bowl, then multiply the number of cups x 40.

  21. Lostkittensuniverse on

    Okay so first thing first:

    1 cup is 40 calories.

1 serving size is 2tbsp and 180 calories.

1 serving size makes about 3 cups when popped.

There are about 9 servings per container.

    This means:

3 x 9 = 27 (popped serving size x amount of servings per container = total amount of popped popcorn cups per container)

27 x 40 = 1080 (total amount of popped popcorn cups per container x amount of calories per cup = total calories per popped bag)

  22. 540
you said there’s 3 bag, the servings per box is saying 9, one serving size is 180 (the 2tbsp) so 3 x one serving (180)

  23. Serving size 9, servings per container 180 cal.

    9 * 180 cal = 1620 cal for the box.

    Box is split into 3 bags, 1620 cal / 3 = 540 cal.

  24. naturalbornunicorn on

There are 9 180-calorie servings per box.

Which means there are 3 180-calorie servings per bag for a total of 540 calories per bag.

For the record, neither 540 or 180 is evenly divisible by 40, so you’ll end up with half a cup leftover if you divide it based on the one-cup popped suggestion if all kernels pop successfully, which they almost certainly won’t.

I wonder whether the estimated number of unpopped kernels represent half a cup of potential popcorn.

  25. melinda_louise on

About 120 but it depends on how much remains unpopped. If all of it were to pop then it would be 180 calories but you always have some leftover that don’t pop, assuming you’re using the microwave.

Edit: I take all that back. I was assuming one bag made 3 cups popped. You’re right this label is confusing as hell.
