  1. Man, I love nutrition facts LMAO

    We gotta use some math

    1 cup = 16 tbsp(the value for 1 cup to 1 tbsp)

    1 serving unpopped = 4.5 cups popped

Calories in 1 cup popped is 30 calories

So since you have these values, then:

170 cal unpopped per serving x 2.5 servings in 1 box = 425 cals unpopped

Since 1 serving makes 4.5 cups unpopped, then 2.5 servings makes 11.25 cups popped

    1 cup popped = 30 cals

    30 cals x 11.25 cups popped = 337.5 calories.

Final value: 337.5 calories per bag.

Or you can also use the augmented matrix simultaneous equations method to determine the value of both the grams and calories, but the method above is more efficient.

The molar concept can be used to find the mass too, or the volume, using avogadro’s law at the formula of 1 mol = 6.02214076 × 10²³ atoms, particles or molecules. But I wouldnt recommend this method, since it requires finding the elements and compounds in the 1 popped popcorn, then using the structural formula to determine the name of it, and after that, youd have to find the mol of 1 gram of that compound, and after that then you find the molar mass of that compound and divide the given mass of the popcorn box by the molar mass of the compound. After you do that, then youd have to use the molar concept to find out the volume per dm³ and then calculate for the entire box.

Honestly man, the method for finding the volume is just too much work and such a hassle and a headache, plus its inefficient. So I recommend using the math at the first part of the post to just solve for the calories only.

  2. 2.5 servings per bag x 4.5 cups per serving popped = 11.25 total cups of popped popcorn in a bag.

    11.25 total cups popped x 30 cals per cup = 337.5 calories

  3. This is why I’ve switched to bagged popcorn that’s already been popped. It’s much easier to calculate calories! 😅

  4. The calories for the popped is 30 per cup, the amount of popped popcorn in the bag is 4.5 cups, it would be 135 for the bag. The amount of popped popcorn doesn’t magically increase in the bag by 2.5 per serving. The serving size for unpopped is 2.5, calories for the unpopped is 170, that would be 425. The unpopped is higher because of the oil that mostly burns off when being popped.

  5. The key is “about 2.5 servings per bag”. One bag is 93.9 grams, so each bag is actually 2.68 servings. So 2.68*170 is 456 calories for the entire bag.

  6. My suggestion: weigh how much popcorn you eat in grams, excluding the unpopped kernels, then divide by 35 and multiply by 170. That will give you the most accurate measurement. I assume the pooped corn weighs approximately the same amount as the unpopped corn, maybe a tiny bit less from moisture loss but it’s probably negligible.

  7. All these highly upvoted comments with varying answers lol. Kinda validating since this question frustrated me recently and these comments didn’t help

  8. Those calorie counts are crazy complicated. They shouldn’t be allowed to play games like that.
