I knew my popcorn habit was derailing my progress, but I didn’t realize why. Each 1/5 second “serving” of this spray has two calories. I scoffed when I’d read that some of y’all use a water spritz to make the salt stick instead- this product is far superior and only two calories! This day though, my thinking hat was on when I glanced at the nutrition label- there are 568 servings of aerosol canola goodness per can, so 1136 calories. And this stuff is good (really good,) so I estimate I would use a can every 5-6 bowls of air popped corn, and I eat popcorn everyday. So essentially I’ve been adding ~160 calories to every 130 calorie snack daily without counting it! For months! Holy shit! It’s not the carbs after all.
I know there are probably zero-calorie sprays, but I think I’m going to try just leaving the popcorn plain from now on, as I believe the general delicious, mindless munchability of salty popcorn isn’t do me any favors either. But maybe I’ll try that weird water thing someday. Cheers!🍿

I used to spray with “butter flavored” sprays and then use kernel seasonings flavors, assuming they were 0 calories. Once I realized the truth, I switched to water. I use a fair amount of water sprayed on, definitely changes texture, but one bonus is that they popcorn doesn’t rip my mouth apart as much when a little moist 🙂
My favorite DIY mix is powdered sugar, cocoa powder and cinnamon!
I have tried coconut oil spray as a healthier, but not lower calorie alternative, but wasn’t a fan.
I use avocado oil spray (thanks Costco!) and a kitchen scale on my popcorn. It gets even coverage for seasoning to stick to without the sliminess of water, and it’s easy to track by the gram.
If I mathed correctly, you are spraying for 20 seconds for an average bowl? You could just do 10 seconds or 5 seconds if you really want a bowl of popcorn – maybe do it once a week or something – but you can literally time yourself spraying it so you avoid ending up with 2 tablespoons worth.
