I visited Hélène Darroze at The Connaught today as a solo diner for lunch and had a really good experience.
All the food was spot on. I ordered from the weekday lunch menu and chose the following three courses –
– Red sea bream
– Turbot
– Signature Baba
As well as some lovely bread, there were also three extra small courses that were served throughout – an amuse bouche, bread ice cream and chocolates at the end.
All of the food was really tasty – well seasoned, flavoursome and presented beautifully. The standout course for me was the turbot. It was up there with some of the best fish I have ever eaten and it came with BBQ’d squid which was delicious. The sauce was also 👌🏻 If I hadn’t been on my own I may have licked the plate 🤣
I also thought it was a nice touch during the dessert course when they brought out three options of Armagnac for me to choose from.
I couldn’t finish the bread so asked if I could take the rest home. They said no problem but when it came to the end, they gave me a fresh, full portion instead to go 🙂
The service was really good. Efficient, friendly & attentive without being too formal or overbearing.
I spent £203 in total (I had a cocktail and water to drink) so pretty spenny 💰 but still glad I went. I have been to quite a few Michelin starred/fine dining restaurants and this was up there with the best.
Overall a really good experience and I’d love to go back sometime to try the full tasting menu.

HD at the Connaught is easily among my favourite restaurants. I can’t wait to visit London again, and combining it with staying at the Connaught Hotel as well. My only ‘nitpick’ about the restaurant is that the wine list is pretty pricey.
How was the bread ice cream?
My buddy is the exec pastry chef there I remember him playing around with that when he was in New York
I’ve been twice & loved it both times. The staff are so warm, including the cooks. Highly recommend
