I live in the deep south, specifically south Georgia and boiled peanuts are just a staple around here! How many of you have tried them? What are your thoughts?
It’s very basic recipe
Start with green peanuts
Put in a pot add water, add salt

I assume you’re shucking the shells first? And if so why not shuck first then boil?

They are legit amazing and I wish we had them up north. I source my green peanuts from the asian groceries and make them at home.
I have eaten so many I should look like that peanut guy on planters. We would go get a bushel of green ones at Hardy Farms in Cordele, GA. We would cook them. I have eaten them from places on a road with a boiled peanut sigh. Love them. Thanks you jerk, now I really want boiled peanuts. LOL Also, those look good.
Shiiiiiiiit yes! I grew up in Texas, and these aren’t a commonly found southern treat there, but if you go into the country in east Texas in the big thicket it’s not uncommon to find tents on the side of the road selling these. And holy shit are they delicious.
My wife hates them, but I think they’re wonderful.
Boiled peanuts are elite snack culture, idc what anyone says 😂
I’m from up north and the first time I had them at a gas station in Florida I was so confused, then suddenly the whole bag was gone. Cajun boiled peanuts hit even harder if you’re ever in the mood to level it up a bit.
I loved getting those from some random gas station in the middle of nowhere South Carolina.
Learned about this just yesterday while listening to the Meateater podcast
Try freezing them and then letting them thaw slightly before eating on a hot day. Amazing.
YUM. When I was a kid and my family moved to Georgia I hated them. When I went back there as an adult I fell in love with them.
I’ve heard they are a good dish to make in a pressure cooker so I’ve always wanted to try it, but I honestly struggle to find raw peanuts anywhere near me.
i love these.
Never had them. What’s the appeal/what do you like about them? What’s the texture like?
Dammit now I want some
So good.
Next level: boil them with hot dogs for some extra umami flavor
It’s a staple snack in South India too.
A bit fancier version is when you shell the peanuts after boiling and then toss it in a wok just a lil bit with little oil, green Thai chilli and grated fresh coconut.
Had ’em once in Kentucky. I have had no desire to revisit that experience. Crunchy roasted peanuts are superior to this soggy abomination and I will die on this hill.
Yum
Looks delicious! I grew up in south Florida (but my maternal side is from South Carolina) where we would buy them from the corner store. They’d be in a crockpot and we’d buy them by the cup full. Of course we were way more trusting back then because I remember the side of the road vendors, lol. Now I’m in North Carolina and I settle for the canned boiled peanuts. I’ve eaten a couple of cans this past week and have 1 left. I was going to hold out until my next grocery trip but your post is about to have me change my mind, lol.
I’ve never had these. Does anyone know if the canned ones are tasty?
I AM CRAZY FOR BOILED PEANUTS!!!!
I haven’t had them since I moved to Kansas City from Florida used to get them at a bait shop on the way to the beach or when I was going fishing
I moved from the south to the PNW and no one here knew what boiled peanuts were! I get a big bag anytime I visit home
I love boiled peanuts! They need to sell them at baseball stadiums in the south.
