I was in Vietnam and saw these fresh durians at the market. Gave it a try. It’s definitely an acquired taste. You either love it or you don’t because of the unique distinct scent. The one I got was creamy, buttery sweetness. Oh so good. Finished the whole tray in one go.

While I like Durian – worst belch ever!
Ah fresh, non-frozen, and doesnt cost an arm and a leg.
I am a teacher. I bought a pack of durian scented stickers for grading work. I passed back some tests the other day and each one had a durian sticker.
It was funny because my students had trouble figuring out why the room suddenly smelled bad. I was accused of BO, others were accused of farting, it took a while before kids figured out that the tests all had stinky stickers on them.
There’s a reason why durians are banned from public transport in many parts of Asia
I went to a farmers market in hawaii where a local farm was selling them. I’ve always wanted to try so i got a small one. Fun experience, my kids ran for the hills. I double wrapped in garbage bags and put in the fridge while we at dinner and came back to eat for desssert.
I liked it, I was the only one lol. Famer was chill, I told him I never had, wanted a smaller one to try and he found a small ripe one for a reasonable price.
If you can find them when you’re in Vietnam, try a ripe jackfruit. It’s sweet and might have a banana or pineapple flavor. I enjoyed ripe jackfruit several times on my trips to the Philippines.
I asked ChatGPT if this would have a similar effect in men like pineapple.
It reported that no one has done any real lab testing (for pineapple or durian).
I am uncomfortably interested in knowing.
I’ve never understood the distaste for durian. My wife hates it. But I love it. It’s slightly funky, sure, but I mostly taste tropical sweetness.

Get durian if it’s from Malaysia. No offense to Thailand but durian from Thailand is so bad compared to the former.

Always loved durian! What foreigners didn’t know is that imported durian is the worse kind, its only imported because it keeps well, not because it taste well! Think the nicest looking apple in stores is because its so waxy, not because of the taste.
And just like apples, there’s tons of different variations to the fruit. My advice is to look for them if you happen to travel and the country produces durian. SEA countries have the best ones.
Fun story, I never understood why people complain about the smell, its funky but a fruity smell. But after covid… it suddenly smell like gas, now when I buy them i need to remind myself that there’s no leaking gas in my house.

No thank you. Durian smells so bad they have signs in just about every hotel in Thailand saying “No Durian!” The taste is like weird meat. I’m not in.
Had durian in Malaysia. No one told me there was a pit. I was one or two chews in before I knew I had a made a very, very bad mistake. The flavor was worse than the smell. Spit it out after 2-3 chews and it took a LONG time to get that taste out of my mouth.
I bet people who like durian enjoy, with longing, watching 2 Girls 1 Cup.
Smell wise? I can’t explain exactly, it depends on the individual & genetics. Some will determine it as stinky, rotten eggy, sulfuric, to others it’ll be fruity, and sweet aroma.
Taste however, think of a fruity custard. Mostly just creamy & sweet.
