I revisited Akoko in Dec 2025 (my first visit was in Aug 2025). Everything in my first review still stands – I adore the food and it’s still my favorite restaurant in London.

Things that were different this time around:

The moimoi and guinea hen really took me by surprise this time as I enjoyed them much more the 2nd time around. I always liked the moimoi, but it was definitely spicer and more flavorful this time. A waiter recommended eating the guinea hen alone and I thought that was much better than eating it with the foam. I found that it really allows the actual guinea hen to shine which was my issue the first time around (it was boring). The foam was still lovely eaten alone. The mushroom with the guinea hen was delicious like last time. The ox tongue with the jollof rice was phenomenal!! So buttery, tender, and flavorful.

The oyster was so so good. The black sesame fudge was amazing as always, my favorite dessert ever, and my favorite part of the meal.

Service was mediocre – empty water glasses for prolonged periods of time, had to request water refills like 3 times, no basket for our handbags. They also didn’t provide a reading on jollof rice this time (?) – not sure if that’s a new thing.

Overall, I still love Akoko and will be returning because the food is great!
