There are different types of laksa according to the different states in Malaysia (eg Perak, Sarawak).

There is also Nyonya laksa which is a type of Peranakan laksa popular in Singapore.

This Johor variant broth is made from reducing whole mackerel fishes for hours into the broth to create a thick texture.
