I threw out my life have had issues with disordered eating, with multiple iterations of me making progress and getting to a really stable / healthy place, then crashing back down and crashing out.

I've struggled a lot with a number of issues, including anxiety about eating in front of other people.
Something that I do that works for me is I go to the grocery store over the weekend and I buy shelf stable food and I put it into these Ziploc gallon bags. And then every day, I open a bag, and that's all of the food that I eat during that day.

For some reason my dumb brain accepts the logic of "because it's in the bag for today we can and we will eat it today'' and this actually reduces basically all my anxiety about eating, and actually makes me feel positive and excited about eating.

The contents of this bag is 1,240 calories.

  1. This sounds like a great way to take away some of the overwhelm when you’re starting out! Hopefully as time goes on you can start replacing bits and pieces comfortably 🙂 One thing i would recommend is also keeping some prechopped veggies in the fridge as a “free food” portioned for each day that you can grab throughout the week as well. Veggies are hard to get through shelf stable means.

This is a great idea. I’m so pleased to hear you’ve found something that works for you!

If it’s working for you right now, it’s great. Just remember to watch the sodium and maybe throw in some fresh vegetables if you can throughout the day. Protein is also good if you can. My husband snacks on beef jerky when he can’t eat a proper meal. He’s on a diet as well. Good luck!! Sending positive vibes to you

  4. id be mindful of the sodium! dangers of a high sodium diet include damage to the heart, kidney, and bones. itll also make you gain weight bc it increased fluid retention.

  5. If you add in some water, potassium, and magnesium supplements before bed it should help you better manage the salt you’re consuming if you are feeling super bloaty.

  6. If you have access to an Asian market, they sell Nongshim Shin Light! It’s a lower calorie version of their ramen where the noodles are airfried instead of fried. It’s 340 cals vs the original version being 510 cals! 🙂

  7. i love this idea!! i get so stressed out counting calories and it usually causes me to stop after a few days. i may have to try this out, it’s a super smart idea!

I am so impressed. Girl you are so smart.

Now I want to find a bigger bag and put all my other fresh/bulky food in there

Just so you know, I’m very similar. I have OCD (the actual diagnosis kind) and some anxiety of my own about incorrectly counting calories and my own weird quirks. I know we aren’t the same, but just so you know there’s another person out there dealing with their own invisible walls.

I started out pretty much exactly like this. Canned food, packaged cookies, bars, frozen meals only. It’s been a few months and I’ve slowly started branching out. I started eating fresh vegetables and cheese using a food scale to weigh it.

This is a good sub Reddit for the most part and I haven’t seen anything about promoting eating disorders or anything so this place has actually helped and inspired me to over come my quirks. I hope you find the same. Sending you positive vibes, and well wishes on your CICO diet.

Above all else just remember to take care of yourself ❤️
