im a huge fan of rice, but ever since trying to lose weight I’ve avoided it like the plague, because for the life of me I can’t figure out how to track the cal’s. Maybe im just slow or overthinking this too much. I use YAZIO as my calorie tracking app.

My family buys “Royal Basmati Rice”, this big 20 pound sack of uncooked rice, it’s delicious but I don’t know how to calculate the calories for, let’s say, one cup of COOKED rice.

The bag says that 1/4 cup is 160 cal, and im assuming that’s reffering to the raw rice.

But on the cooking instructions, it says 1 cup (of uncooked rice) yields 3 cups cooked, and is 4 servings. Does that mean 3/4 cup of cooked rice is 160 cal?? Does that mean 1/4 cup uncooked makes 3/4 cups cooked? Im not a dumbass but im unbearably anxious about not knowing the calories of what i eat. I don’t wanna have to make one singular serving every time i want rice, we usually make white rice in big portions, and I just want some peace of mind when im eating rice.

thanks in advance 😭

Yep 3/4 cup of cooked rice is 160cal.
1/4 cup of raw rice makes 3/4 of cooked rice. You got it all right 😊

1 cup of cooked rice would then be ~213 cal

If you like rice and don’t mind rice being a bit sticky – try adding konjac rice to the mix – start with a small ratio then increase if you don’t mind the taste

  2. Yes you’re completely correct and grains and rice always refers to the precooked amounts! 🙂

Just measure it after it’s been cooked. But yes rice is 1:3 so one cup of dry rice makes 3 cups of cooked rice.
