A woodfired pizza place opened up, so i wanted to look at their menu and check for vegatarian options, and i got this….

  1. Maybe it’s fake pepperoni? You could try calling them to ask if they have a phone number (and delivery through them vs thru the apps might be cheaper)

  2. I thought only vegan meant no animal products and vegetarian just meant no meat / flesh.

I’ve been calling myself vegetarian for 2 years during which I have had all the dairy, eggs, etc. I want. Just no meat.

    Is that wrong?

In my country, we call peppers and the salami pepperoni as well. I’m not a vegetarian, but when we ordered pizza, I was always trying to guess: “will my pizza have the long green peppers/2 kinds of meat/ or both?”

  4. I noticed the parmesan before the pepperoni. Genuine Italian Parmigiano Reggiano is not vegetarian as it’s made with calf rennet. A lot of ‘real’ French and Italian cheeses are (but then I can’t see them being very US tariff friendly now, if that’s where you are).

I remember pork wasn’t traditionally considered meat in Spain because it was what peasants ate and “real” meat was a luxury item. My aunt lived there for a while and was always asking for vegetarian salads and they’d arrive with chunks of ham sprinkled on top. Possibly they felt sorry for her and were trying to feed her up. (I went there as a teen and ate asparagus omelettes for two weeks straight because asparagus was in season and the only vegetarian option in every place we stopped. It was actually pretty good: if you have to be stuck eating the same meal for two weeks you could do a lot worse 😅)

So either they’re Spanish or it’s a misprint. Maybe they meant to say peppers? Or maybe they mixed up the name with another pizza?

  6. my most toxic vegetarian trait is overlooking parmesan…. im so sorry. one day i will be a better person

  7. Could the veg pizza just have had the same ingredients minus the pepperoni and someone missed removing that from the description?

  8. In Italian (and also Swiss High German, where I’m from), peperoni with one “p” actually means bell pepper/capsicum. Oh and in the rest of the German speaking world, peperoni actually means hot peppers, so chili pepper.

So possibly it is a incorrect translation/false friend situation.

  9. We once ordered the vegan version of a pizza from DoorDash, get to the location, open the box, meat and cheese everywhere. Turns out that not only did the vegan part of the order not come through the system, but the vegan option is just removing all the meat and swapping the cheese for the worst vegan cheese ever.

People have no idea what things are made of, I had my brother say to me once. Now I know you’re vegetarian but can you have bacon? I’m like, do you have any clue what you’re putting in your body?

  11. Haven’t seen it suggested in the comments but is there a possibility the description was AI generated? The other day I was looking to order in some food and the description for all the food was AI generated (even though it was literally just stuff like “A box of waffle fries served with a portion of garlic mayo”). Maybe the store AI generated everything and this was something it got wrong.

  12. This could also be the AI description that sometimes comes up on doordash. I hate it bc usually it’s wrong or doesn’t make sense.

  13. Unless it’s actually ‘Italian Hard Cheese’ or similar, parmesan isn’t vegetarian anyway
