So my grandma made this pot roast that tasted incredibly different from anyone else’s. I am so glad I asked her what her secret was when she made it for myself, my husband, and our children when we were visiting her. That was over 20 years ago and she has since passed.

She slow baked it in the oven with soy sauce. The juices from the meat mix with the soy sauce, and as it cooks slowly over several hours, the character of the soy sauce entirely changes and it makes the most incredible gravy. She never thickened it, and I usually don’t either. I added some onions to the bottom of the cast iron dutch oven in which I cooked mine all afternoon, which just added another wonderful dimension to the gravy.

I’ve made this for my kids many times over the years, and hope to make it for my own grandchildren someday. So it will still be “grandma’s pot roast.” 🙂

  2. Those fresh green beans look so good on a scrumptious looking dish. My mouth is literally watering and I’m on a 5-day water fast 😓 I can only dream of scrumptious meals.
