  1. I’m not sure how they calculated it but I feel like the rice alone must be that amount. I used to work at a sushi restaurant and the ball of rice the chefs spread onto a single roll was definitely at least half a cup. also, sushi rice is actually made with a surprising amount of sugar (to balance the rice vinegar). I think it’s reasonable to say you have at least a cup of (short grain) rice in that box, which the internet says is around 250 calories.

I’d guess about 1 cup rice, 0.25 of an avocado, and 4oz fish. Plus about 150 for sauce and crunchies.

  3. Did you try weight the contents of the package. That would definitely tell you if it’s more than 189g

  4. I would 3x it. I know it’s printed as 1 serving = 1 package but a roll is usually like 2 servings or 8 pieces. You have 12 in there. So it’s probably supposed to be 3 servings.

On average every piece of sushi is 40-45 calories. I think I see 13 pices here with mayo and some avocado, so let’s say 45 calories per pieces : 13×45=585 calories.

Says for 189grams. I doubt there’s only one serving in there, I’d weigh it and adjust

It’s not as much food as you think, but probably more than 230 calories.

Think about it – the only real calories here are from the rice, mayo, avocado, and tempura bits.

That’s probably a half cup of rice, two slices of avocado, a tbsp of mayo and maybe 2 tbsp of tempura bits. All the fish added together would probably equal about 100 calories, so 230 might be low, but I’d say it’s not that far off.

Check the weight. It says 1 package is 180g. This seems way more than that so the calories might be correct based on the weight

  9. Salmon nigiri is 135 calories for two small-medium pieces. Tuna is 70. I’ll estimate the 9 maki pieces as a salmon avocado roll at 300, plus 1 tbsp of spicy mayo (100) + the fried topping (1 tbsp at 50 calories according to MFP). Call it around 650?

Their printed labels are premade while the food is made fresh, so it’s not accurate at all. The system for labeling sushi should probably be revised

I never order sushi when I’m actually hungry, because I know I’ll still be hungry after it and will just eat more and more.

Counter-intuitively, I eat it when I’m _not_ hungry. As a treat when I’m eating for flavour rather than for sustenance.

I also find a similar strategy works with sweets. If I have candy when I’m hungry, I’ll just eat more and more candy and consume a lot of calories. If I have candy when I’m not even hungry, it’s easier to stop after a sensible amount.

This happens to me that they mislabel the actual sushi and the calories is for with thing completely different.

My ignorant bless let’s me think these sushi packs are labeled correctly. I know deep down it’s not true.

Its probably closer to 400, some of yall saying 600 should be ashamed of yourselves. There absolutely no way this is 600 calories, and trying to act like it is when that would literally be half of their calorie intake for the day according to this sub is sick.

I used to get a 10 piece sushi roll that I loved. They labeled it at like 700 calories, and I knew it was BS. They later changed it to 350.

Everyone saying there’s a tablespoon of mayo on there should get their eyes checked, at most, there’s half a tbs.

  15. Mister_Uncredible on

The answer is simple, weigh it. The label is likely accurate for the weight listed, whether or not that’s how much it actually weighs will answer the question.

  16. Salmon nigiri is about 60-90kcal EACH. Tuna is slightly less. But I’d estimate just those 4 pieces at about 230 kcal but themselves.

  17. Package says Chef Special 8. Makes me wonder if it were made for an 8-piece nigiri special rather than what’s stuffed in there.

  18. blueeyesshined13 on

Byerlys? Lmao I got some yesterday and mine was 430 calories with just plain rice and fish no sauce or veggies.

  19. WatersEdge50 on

No way. Same situation at my local grocery store sushi thing. A tray like that will say 190 cal. I’m like no way bruh.

  20. Given the weight, that would be correct, but I wouldn’t trust the weight, so check the weight, then multiply it by the ratio diff.
