I am seriously freaking out!
Yesterday i realised that the calorie count on instant ramen is for the prepared weight.. and not dry. So i thought my noodles where 60 cal and not 210!

Today i decide to plan my calories around eating sone fancy noodle and they weigh 300g after cooking. Its the firebull noodles that are 400 cal per 100.. turns out that is fucking 1200 calories for a pack!!!!

I have decided not to eat it and just give it to my partner… But jeeesus. Can this be real? Wtf. I feel very misinformed by the packaging

  1. – important to read labels, serving size. With raw pasta its typically dry weight. This is why Carbe Diem is a gamechanger in diets as it is 55% of the calories of regular pasts

I am not sure that one can categorically say that the calorie count on ramen packets is for the prepared weight; it varies between brands.

I was curious about this Fire Bull ramen so I checked it online, and a 137.8g packet is listed as being a single-serving packet, with that serving size containing 550kcal. Unless you had a larger packet, like a double portion pack or something, I don’t see why you would need to weigh it and not just take the calorie info straight from the packet.

To complicate matters further, some ramen packets will indeed give the calorie info for 100g/ml of a prepared portion, but often those brands will contain instructions on the back for how much water to use during preparation, and the weight will include that water as well, not just the noodles.

  3. They vary a LOT and the labels can be very confusing. I personally love the Mama brand which is a small packet of ramen and only about 260 calories for the packet. Throw in some lean meat, eggs, or tofu and some veggies, and you have a very reasonable and delicious meal.
