    The whole can has 160 calories. Figure from there 😊. Really, though, it’s simple. If you eat half the quantity in the can, that’s 80 calories. The water and additives may be a negligible part of the total calorie count. In other words, half the solids would still be 80 calories, a third 55 calories.

  2. If the ingredients are just potatoes, water, and preservatives I’d weigh the potatoes without water and log boiled whatever type of potato in that weight.

    i usually drain cans with liquid and just weigh the solids, counting from there

    Dude just bake and weigh your own potatoes. You can nuke them in the microwave.

    Any canned veg is the drained weight. The only way to track the actual serving is to weigh the drained potatoes and calculate from there. 

    The “per container” calories is probably calculated using the gram amount on the front of the can (it says 425 g) or 2.5 x 165 g (412 g). You most likely want to go with the 165g amount and calculate it out from there, MFP should be able to do that!

    it doesnt matter whether it is drained or undrained. you know the whole can is 160 cal. that means 15oz of undrained potato is 160cal. and if you drain the can and weigh the solids, that amount of drained potato (probably around 10oz) is also 160cal.

    so, if you want 7oz undrained, you go 160/15 * 7 to get your calories. if you want 4oz drained, you go 160/(total weight of drained solids) * 4. when putting it in your calorie tracker, just select canned potatoes and make sure the calories match your calculations, even if the weight is off.
