After an unexpectedly incredible dinner tonight, we cannot recommend this place enough.

Just got back from a couple weeks in Japan and have been experiencing food withdrawals. I’m a decent cook but our culinary experiences in Japan were just too amazing (10/10 recommend Respiración in Kanazawa).

We wanted to celebrate our anniversary and we combed through restaurants with tasting menus we hadn’t been to yet around the DMV. I found Elyse on Google Maps.

We have been to a bunch of the heavy hitters in DC that are more frequented and mentioned on this sub as well as some of the more low-key options around NoVa that come up here occasionally. We were expecting Elyse to be the latter but we were incredibly surprised this evening.

Elyse was hands down the best culinary experience we have had in the States so far. The food was incredible, the service made us feel like the only people in the restaurant, Chef Jon split his time between friendly conversation and grinding it the kitchen to prepare food for us.

Elyse was better than all of the one star restaurants we have been to and some of the two star restaurants. I cannot recommend this place enough. We will absolutely return.

I’m awful at remembering to take pictures so here is what I got:

1 – Menu

2 – Holland white asparagus

3 – Scottish wood pigeon (half eaten)

4 – Kinmedai and Kinki crudo (half eaten)

5 – Goguma sweet potato

6 – Foie gras with orange, kumquat, and passion fruit sauce and dark sponge cake-like base (half eaten, extra).
