For the last 15 years i’ve been making muffulettas for the opening round of march madness as a fun personal tradition. It’s easily my favorite sandwich of all time. The recipe started off as a replica of central groceries but i’ve tweaked it over the years with the olive salad or bread, more recently making a spicy one like I had once at Verti Marte – the dude said just add a bunch of cayenne to the olive salad.
I bake the bread the day of assembly, make the olive salad 2-5 days before that, and it usually lasts my wife and I 2 days if we’re lucky lol.
Outside of NOLA I’ve never had a muffuletta anywhere that rivals my own. I don’t think I’d put mine up against the titans, but I at least like to think they’d be proud. Unfortunately this year I forgot the sesame seeds, but it’s also the first year making the bread in a stand mixer instead of by hand.

That looks great! Please share the recipe if you can.
That is the correct amount of olive salad for a muffuletta. 10/10 no notes, would smash.
Are you a detroiter?
Homemade bread too? Nice! I always have to substitute ciabatta or focaccia because the Sicilian loaves are hard to come by and I suck at breadmaking.
Looks like it needed to be weighted down a bit more? I like the amount of olives tho.
Nice muff
