Wanted to share this because I showed an American friend, and he called it “Classic Americana.”

Steak and eggs was actually Australian, traditionally served with either (or all) caramelized onions, fried mushrooms, fried tomato, and two thick pieces of bread.

it got to America during the 1940s and became an American staple where as in Australia it fell out of favour as "Something your grandpa eats"

Interesting, didn’t know it was originally Aussie.

Say what you will about the ungrateful colony though, adding hash browns as a frequent accompaniment was a great shout.

I also love that it’s one of the few places you can reliably get the cheaper, still delicious cuts of steak done simply (eg skirt, flank). Don’t get me wrong, I love them marinated and whatever, but people sleep too much on “just cook it like a steak, salt and heat, then cut it well”.

  2. I grew up on hashbrowns and eggs. The meat would change, typically sausage or bacon.
My needs have changed as an adult. My breakfast in a about an hour. Will be a shredded potato ,caramelized onion, roasted pablano pepper, and grilled link sausage. With toast.
I grew up on a farm, and breakfast isn’t breakfast without fried potatoes and aggs, and a meat. Am curious as an American, do Aussies eat much sausage?
Typically we grind up whatever lessor meat is available and add lots of spices and make links. Patty or bulk sausage tends to be more bland then link is.
Another question about bread. In the south we make soft biscuits, and will add egg and meat for a quick breakfast. Are you influenced by English muffins,or plain bread?
