I just felt so impressed with the service I just really really want to tell people about it. The photo isn’t very good but that’s bc I suck at taking photo.
So like personally I felt like the food was great but some dishes weren’t that nice but the service was amazing. Eg I felt the sea urchin with the blue sea foam wasn’t that great bc it felt a bit fishy. (Photo 9) And I really didn’t like the foie in photo 11, I felt like it was really fishy, gamey? But they were really amazing in the sense that when I told them, they immediately changed it to a beetroot dish and a mushroom dish. Both were great!
What was even better was the service when my friend stated that she wanted to eat the passion fruit bite on the rose again and I said I really wanted to eat the mushroom macaron bite again. They brought both bites to us again!!! They were really so so warm and welcoming and really did everything to make the meal so much better. They even gave us gifts (soap) and petite fours to go back home.
This is just so much better than my experience at el celler de can roca a few years ago. That experience didn’t feel warm at all and I was so put off from 3* fine dining. Like compared to this at least. My mom really loved the chocolate foie at el celler and asked if they sold it or if she could have another bite. To which, they refused and said only 1 per person and they don’t sell so if we wanted we needed to go eat at their sister restaurant. I also really really hated all their vegetable dishes but when I said I didn’t enjoy it, they didn’t offer to change it or anything. Furthermore, I saw many people saying they got petite fours as gifts but my family didn’t get any gifts!
Yes, I understand gifts are a nice touch and not an expectation but I saw many people that went away with gifts but we didn’t so I was disappointed.
So I was so so surprised with the service at Azurmendi today. It was so warm and it felt like they really wanted us to enjoy the meal. If we didn’t enjoy it, they would change it for us, they took note of what we really enjoyed and gave us an extra bite each.
The food was all really good and innovative :)! But can I just say I love the vegetables here a lot more too🤣.
