After basically not eating at McDonald's for close to two decades, I was curious to try their new vegetarian sandwich.
McDonald's was the main outlier in the trend towards having veggie options at fast food restaurants. In Canada, A&W has had multiple veggie burgers for years now. I don't eat chain fast food super often – usually just when I'm on a long drive or in an airport.
I was skeptical of the McVeggie because I tend to prefer the fake meat approach instead of ones with visible vegetables. Really, what I want is a vegetarian Big Mac.
I got the habanero McVeggie. The combo with medium fries came to ~$12 all in – substantially cheaper than A&W veggie combo, which is usually ~$18 all in. It was, however, less filling. I probably could have eaten two sandwiches.
I got it with habanero sauce, cheese, and light onions. It tasted pretty much how I remember McDonald's tasting, which is probably the best that could be expected.
I think this ranks below A&W and Taco Bell for me, but it does mean there's something I'd eat at McDonald's in a pinch. 6\10 for fast food.

Shake Shack’s veggie patty is the best fast food veggie burger by far.
I like that it’s a veggie patty and not just a faux meat burger. And with the spicy sauce it really wasn’t that bad. I added pickles, cheese, and tomato.
years ago i would get a Big Mac with the meat on the side and give it to literally anybody who’d take it, because they wouldn’t discount it. I think i’ve gone into McD’s less than 5 times in the last 25 years because of that.
We just traveled to Amsterdam and Oslo. After having the McDees veggie options in those two cities, the new McVeggie in Canada is not good. I’m not sure why they didn’t bring the Euro burger over here!
