I've been looking for the cheapest ice cream for a long time now. 5 dollars for a pint just seems too much for me, considering I could eat one in just a day. And no, I don't wanna buy a Ninja Creami. Well, I found a great alternative. I must have looked at 100 different brands from all throughout the country. I gave up my search online, and went to the store. Alas, I found Breyers Carb Smart Brownie A La Mode. This was hidden from me online, as its recent change by the company was not mentioned anywhere. It recently decreased in calories per serving from around 120 calories per 81 grams to around 100 calories for 83g. For reference, Halo Top's Vanilla Bean flavor is around 90 calories for 85 grams. Not bad.
According to one angry reviewer I found online, this calorie decrease comes from the decrease in the amount of fudge and brownie chunks, but since I never got to try this before the change, I guess we'll never know. The fudge and chunks seemed plentiful enough for me.
I smudged around 271 grams of this stuff into a Halo Top pint as best as I could, and it came to around 320 calories.
You get actually great tasting "frozen dairy dessert" with a decent amount of brownie chunks and fudge. The texture is not as bad as the other carb smart ice creams and it seems very close to actual Halo Top in my opinion, a bit less denser. Every bite it seems like there's a brownie chunk somewhere, and the fudge combined with the ice cream makes for a heavenly texture. As someone who only tried the Vanilla version of Carb Smart, which was an icey, densey, yucky mess, this was a large upgrade for me,
The only drawback is its protein content, coming in at around 7g per pint. Besides that, you get around 3 pints worth of great tasting low calorie ice cream for around 3 bucks, miles above other brands like Nick's and Halo Top.
