I cannot for the life of me grasp how to calculate calories in cooked rice and the posts in here confused me even more haha. I get Botan white rice and on the bag it says 1/4 cup is 160 calories. Is that 1/4 of uncooked or cooked? I assume uncooked and it does specify. Like a serving size of 1/4 cooked rice has more volume than uncooked so wouldn’t that be less than 160 calories? For example say cooked rice is 2x more volume than uncooked. So 1/4 uncooked is 160 calories and 1/4 cooked is half or 80 (just hypothetical). But that’s what’s tripping me up. I eat a fair amount of rice and am unsure if I’m tracking it incorrectly.
I’ll make 2 cups of uncooked rice in the rice cooker and that will last me 6 meals over 3 days. If I’m the only one eating it the question is moot because I can say 160×4 =640 per cup x2 =1280 for the pot. Divide that across 6 meals and I’m eating 213 calories of rice per meal. Right? But if my husband eats it I am unsure how to track my serving. I’d have to do a measurement but writing this out I think the crux is I don’t know how to calculate what calories in cooked rice = calories uncooked rice. Like I need to know how much does 1/4 cup of uncooked rice become in cups once it is cooked. Then I can do the math. Photo of my daily breakfast for tax 🙂
